Stricter Ryanair and Loganair Baggage Allowance Means Frugal Packing

It looks like the souvenirs will have to stay on holiday in 2025 as Ryanair reduces the allowance to take luggage on holiday. A hold case of 20KG means bringing home purchases, but is also an excuse to overpack and only use a small portion of clothing and swimwear taken.

Packing essential items but keeping the costs of travel down is an art form

Logainair – 6kg Cabin bags 40x35x18cm

Ryanair seem generous compared to Loganair, who use smaller aircraft to fly around UK. The cabin bag required is maximum weight 6kg with dimensions 40x35x18cm. The problem is every retail website tags these dimensions but either the bags are bigger, Ryanair approved at 40x35x20cm, or smaller at 40x30x15cm. No one, it seems, wants to make consumers’ lives easier while taking our money.

Therefore, if Loganair provide a leg of your journey, you may need to settle for a smaller rucksack of 40x30x15cm or the dimensions may allow a treasured bag from your existing collection.

Ryanair to introduce stricter rules on 5 November 2025

When luggage restrictions first came in, with higher costs for hold luggage, the art of packing everything into a small case became desirable. Seeing diaries from over 50 years ago, often packing lists appeared. What are the essentials? What gets used? What liquids can be carried in a see-through bag?

A Luggage Scale is worth taking to avoid hefty fines at check in.

A website called MyBaggage provides some excellent info to have before booking on Ryanair’s website. The booking services via Skyscanner.net don’t provide clear information, nor do they have the flexibility to book “priority” to allow a 10kg usual size case, free included under the seat case and a 20kg bag for the hold.
